My Project:
Create a multi-genre project about a topic of your choice.
Our assignment was to design a website with numerous components all based on the topic we chose.
My Topic: The Holocaust and my family history
My Question:
How did the Holocaust effect the world, my family, and my life?
Importance to me:
Growing up, my Great Grandmother used to tell stories. As a young girl, I wasn't aware that these stories were actually based on her life.
Already one of the few Jewish kids at my school, the history behind my religion has always felt personal.
My Great Grandmother had numerous siblings and so did her husband, my Great Grandfather. Between both families, three survived the Holocaust. My Great Grandmother, her sister, and my Great Grandfather.
My Great Grandparents gave birth to one child, my Grandma. Next in line was my Mother and her brother. With my Uncle never having children of his own, and my Mother having my twin Sister and myself, in some ways, I feel like it's my responsibility to carry on the memory.
Even though I remember the long hours of Rummikub and 'the chair that comes with a remote!', my Great Grandparents were burdened with the despair from their past.
In the interview of my Grandma that I made for this project, a few of her parents stories are shared for all of you. My hope is that not only will this project inform my twenty-or-so classmates, but that the rest of the world will also have the ability to learn about my family history.
